The brake system hastwo separate hydraulic
circuits. Ifone circuit malfunctions, youwillstill
have braking attwo wheels.
Y ou may feelasmall clickandhear asound

The brake booster aidsbraking byusing engine
vacuum. Ifthe engine stops, youcan stop the
vehicle bydepressing thebrake pedal. However,
greater footpressure onthe brake pedalwillbe
required tostop thevehicle andthestopping
distance willbelonger.
When thebrake pedalisdepressed slowlyand
firmly ,you may hear aclicking noiseandfeela
slight pulsation. Thisisnormal andindicates that
the Brake Assist System isoperating.
Using thebrakes
GUID-68FF F67F-04F0- 402E-BB4B-8 82B90506CCB
Avoid resting yourfootonthe brake pedalwhile
driving. Thiswillcause overheating ofthe
brakes, wearing outthebrake padsandshoes
faster andreduce gasmileage.
T o help reduce brakewearandtoprevent the
brakes fromoverheating, reducespeedand
downshift toalower gearbefore goingdownaslope
orlong grade. Overheated brakesmay
reduce braking performance andcould resultin
loss ofvehicle control.
WARNING
. While driving onaslippery surface,
be careful whenbraking, accelerat-
ing ordownshifting. Abruptbraking
or accelerating couldcause the
wheels toskid andresult inan
accident.
. Ifthe engine isnot running oris
turned offwhile driving, thepower
assist forthe brakes willnotwork.
Braking willbeharder.

When thevehicle iswashed ordriven through
water, thebrakes maygetwet. Asaresult, your
braking distance willbelonger andthevehicle
may pulltoone side during braking.
T o dry brakes, drivethevehicle atasafe speed
while lightly tapping thebrake pedaltoheat-up
the brakes. Dothis until thebrakes returnto
normal. Avoiddriving thevehicle athigh speeds
until thebrakes function correctly.

occurs, youmay hear aªclunkº noiseand/or feel
a pulsation inthe brake pedal. Thisisnormal and
is not anindication ofamalfunction.
WARNING
. The VDC system isdesigned tohelp
improve drivingstability butdoes
not prevent accidents duetoabrupt
steering operation athigh speeds or
by careless ordangerous driving
techniques. Reducevehiclespeed
and beespecially carefulwhendriv-
ing and cornering onslippery sur-
faces andalways drivecarefully.
. Do not modify thevehicle's suspen-
sion. Ifsuspension partssuchas
shock absorbers, struts,springs,
stabilizer bars,bushings and
wheels arenot NISSAN recom-
mended foryour vehicle orare
extremely deteriorated, theVDC
system maynotoperate properly.
This could adversely affectvehicle
handling performance, andtheVDC
warning light
may illuminate.
. Ifbrake related partssuchasbrake
pads, rotors andcalipers arenot
NISSAN recommended orare extre- mely
deteriorated, theVDC system
may notoperate properly andthe
VDC warning light
may illumi-
nate.
. Ifengine control relatedpartsare
not NISSAN recommended orare
extremely deteriorated, theVDC
warning light
may illuminate.
. When driving onextremely inclined
surfaces suchashigher banked
corners, theVDC system maynot
operate properly andtheVDC warn-
ing light
may illuminate. Donot
drive onthese typesofroads.
. When driving onanunstable sur-
face such asaturntable, ferry,
elevator orramp, theVDC warning
light
may illuminate. Thisisnot
a malfunction. Restarttheengine
after driving ontoastable surface.
. Ifwheels ortires other thanthe
NISSAN recommended onesare
used, theVDC system maynot
operate properly andtheVDC warn-
ing light
may illuminate.
. The VDC system isnot asubstitute

The maintenance itemslistedhereshould be
checked periodically (forexample, eachtimeyou
check theengine oilorrefuel) .
Battery*: Checkthefluid level ineach cell.
It should bebetween theMAX andMIN lines.
V ehicles operated inhigh temperatures orunder
severe condition requirefrequent checksofthe
battery fluidlevel.
NO TE:
Care should betaken toavoid situations
that canlead topotential batterydischarge
and potential no-startconditions suchas:
1. Installation orextended useofelectro-
nic accessories thatconsume battery
power whentheengine isnot running
(Phone chargers, GPS,DVDplayers,
etc .)
2. Vehicle isnot driven regularly and/or
only driven shortdistances. In
these cases, thebattery mayneed tobe
charged tomaintain batteryhealth.
Brake andclutch fluidlevel*: Makesurethat
the brake andclutch fluidlevel isbetween the
MAX andMIN lines onthe reservoir.
Engine coolant level*:Checkthecoolant level
when theengine iscold.
Engine drivebelt*: Makesurethatthedrive
belt isnot frayed, worn, cracked oroily .
Engine oillevel*: Checkthelevel afterparking
the vehicle onalevel surface andturning offthe
engine. Wait more than10minutes forthe oilto
drain backintotheoilpan.
Exhaust system:Makesurethere arenoloose
supports, cracksorholes. Ifthe sound ofthe
exhaust seemsunusual orthere isasmell of
exhaust fumes,immediately havetheexhaust
system inspected byaNISSAN dealer.(See
ªPrecautions whenstarting anddrivingº (P.5-2)
for exhaust gas(carbon monoxide) .)
Fluid leaks: Checkunderthevehicle forfuel,
oil, water orother fluidleaks afterthevehicle has
been parked forawhile. Water dripping fromthe
air conditioner afteruseisnormal. Ifyou should
notice anyleaks orifgasoline fumesareevident,
check forthe cause andhave itcorrected
immediately . Radiator

radiator andclean offany dirt, insects, leaves,
etc., thatmay have accumulated. Makesurethe
hoses havenocracks, deformation, rotorloose
connections.
Underbody: Theunderbody isfrequently ex-
posed tocorrosive substances suchasthose
used onicy roads ortocontrol dust.Itis very
important toremove thesesubstances, other-
wise rustwillform onthe floor pan, frame, fuel
lines andaround theexhaust system.Atthe end
of winter, theunderbody shouldbethoroughly
flushed withplain water, beingcareful toclean
those areaswhere mudanddirtmay accumu-
late. Foradditional information, seeªCleaning
exteriorº (P.7-2) .
